Teresa Satalino
Conductor · Italy
Teresa Satalino is an accomplished conductor, composer, and educator whose multifaceted career is rooted in a profound and diverse academic background. She began her musical journey at a remarkably young age, earning a degree in piano, and went on to pursue advanced studies in Composition, Orchestral Conducting, Jazz, and Music Education. Her academic pursuits extended beyond music: she also completed a degree in Humanities with a specialization in historical and artistic studies, culminating in a thesis focused on the renowned Italian composer Luciano Berio.
Her passion for conducting led her to pursue a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting, studying under eminent maestros such as Jorma Panula, Bruno Bartoletti, Lu Jia, Alain Lombard, Donato Renzetti, and Piero Bellugi. She further enriched her artistic formation by specializing in Film Music Composition under the guidance of Ennio Morricone at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
Over the years, Teresa Satalino has graced some of the world’s most esteemed concert halls, including the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Palazzo Esterházy in Eisenstadt, the Smetana Hall in Prague, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. Her international collaborations have brought her to the podium of orchestras such as the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre in Brazil, the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra, and the CMC Orchestra in New York. She has worked with distinguished soloists like Alexander Chaushian, Boris Brovtsyn, Sophie Dervaux, Anna Serova, Roman Spitzer, Gernot Süßmuth, Felix Schwarz, and Camille Thomas.
In 2018, she was appointed Artistic and Music Director of the AYSO Orchestra. Under her dynamic leadership, AYSO rapidly emerged as a leading youth orchestra in Italy. Her guidance led AYSO to win first prize at the International Summa Cum Laude Festival in Vienna for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023), standing out among orchestras from across the globe.
Teresa is also the Artistic Director of AYSO Young Soloists, a chamber ensemble known for its vibrant concert activity. The group has performed at prestigious venues, including the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, the Italian Embassy in Vienna, and the Italian Cultural Institute and Permanent Representation at UNESCO in Paris.
Her engagements as a conductor have included invitations to prominent international festivals such as the Italian Brass Week, the Walton Foundation International Festival, Festival Como Città della Musica at Teatro Sociale, the International Festival of Youth Orchestras in Florence, and the Napoli Teatro Festival. Among her most significant achievements are the world premiere of a new work at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the auspices of the Italian Space Agency, and the Italian premiere of Ayre by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov.
Beyond performance, Teresa Satalino is deeply committed to the promotion of classical music through innovative cultural initiatives. She is the creator and artistic director of several projects — including OrchestrAzione, Vita da Leggio, and Behind the Scenes (directed by Alessandro Piva) — which have received funding from both public and private institutions.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Teresa is a dedicated educator and currently serves as a lecturer at the Conservatory, where she continues to inspire the next generation of musicians with her knowledge, experience, and passion.
